Psychology services for chronic illness
Our psychologists specialize in working with children from birth to age 17 who have psychological needs related to medical, emotional and behavioral issues. We also provide neuropsychological evaluations following a neurological injury or illness.
Psychological evaluations and therapy
Initial evaluation and therapy can address issues such as:
- Adjustment to loss
- Compliance with therapy and treatment programs
- Coping with medical conditions
- Management of behavior problems
Therapy helps children develop coping and problem-solving skills, appropriate emotional expression and family communication and interaction. We also offer support for families helping to handle behaviors at home. Testing may be used to guide treatment.
Evaluations can be a critical tool to help guide treatment after a neurological illness or injury.
These independent evaluations assess learning and developmental concerns, and clarify the child's intellectual abilities, learning style and academic skills. A typical evaluation includes:
- Clinical interview
- Feedback meeting
- Written report with recommendations for learning and academic success
You will be asked to complete an intake packet including information on your child's health history, strengths, difficulties, educational reports and past evaluations. Packets must be returned before scheduling an initial appointment.
