A mental health GPS for families
We know treatment works. We're transforming pediatric mental health care by defeating the stigma and treating families with compassion, respect and clinical expertise. Our unique round-the-clock care and short-term crisis management creates a safe place for your children to become the best versions of their selves.
What makes us special
Our facility is built around the theme of natural elements: natural light, outdoor spaces, bright colors, and activity. The aesthetics incite positivity, health, and happiness among our patients.
With access to outside spaces and a wide array of therapy services, we strive to soothe and stabilize the children that see us. We treat with care, enthusiasm, and one-of-a-kind safety features—never mechanical restraints. Our collaborative, seclusion free community urges open visitation and involvement of the family through the entire treatment process. We offer both inpatient and outpatient services that can be established by referral.
We’re transforming children’s mental health. Take a tour of VTCC to learn more.
Here at VTCC, we don’t just treat your child, we treat their futures.
We have an extensive aftercare program, dedicated to providing services and teaching lessons that a child can bring home and take into the rest of their lives:
- Community services
- Linking home base or school base services
- Ongoing psych treatment and/or therapy
- Day treatment programs
When you step into our world, we don’t step out of yours. We make sure to tailor children’s experiences specifically to their needs. From the beginning until even after your child leaves us, we’re there for them—and you—every step of the way.
Outpatient services at VTCC
Outpatient care involves no overnight treatment but is just as important. Patients may come once but may also come regularly depending on their needs. We address the following concerns:
- Adjustment problems
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders
- Behavior disorders at home and school
- Depression
- Personality and mood disorders
- Sexual abuse
We also provide a 24-hour care inpatient program for adolescents in need of acute, overnight care.

Contact Virginia Treatment Center for Children
Prior to inpatient admission, children must be screened by a qualified mental health professional. This can be the child's regular mental health provider or a screener in a hospital emergency room or community services board. After determining that inpatient care is needed, the screener will contact VTCC to arrange next steps.
Cameron K. Gallager Mental Health Resource Center
Emotional, social, and behavioral challenges can be overwhelming and difficult to understand. Our innovative Cameron K. Gallager Mental Health Resource Center serves as a hub for support, referrals, and encouragement every step of the way. As a part of the Virginia Treatment Center for Children, we take into account what families have experienced in the mental health system, and work to make sure the process is as simple and stress-free as possible.
