LGBTQIA+ support groups for adolescents and parents/guardians

Support, belonging and thriving

Every child and family who comes through our doors should feel a sense of support and belonging. We acknowledge many of our LGBTQIA+ patients face unique health care needs – and the Cameron K. Gallagher Mental Health Resource Center is here to help.

LGBTQIA+ support group: ages 13-17

Our therapeutic LGBTQIA+ peer support group is designed for adolescents ages 13 to 17. The group is facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker who has experience providing LGBTQIA+ mental health services. There are many benefits to peer support groups, including providing a safe space for social support, discussing struggles, building positive coping strategies and more.

Insurance and billing

Therapeutic support groups are similar in style to one-on-one therapy – but with a group of peers. We will bill your insurance company or work with you on self-payment for group therapy. We provide care regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

Schedule and registration

Groups are held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 4 Virginia Treatment Center for Children.

Registration is required. Call 804-828-3137 to register.

LGBTQIA+ parent support group

Parents, family and friends can have a big impact in the lives of our LGBTQIA+ youth. We're here to provide a supportive environment to develop ways to advocate, support and affirm your LGBTQIA+ youth. This FREE support group is designed to give parents and guardians a safe space to address their child's unique health care needs.

Schedule and registration

Groups are held every 3rd Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Virginia Treatment Center for Children. This new service will begin April 16, 2024.
