National Nurse Practitioner Week 2022: Thank you, NPs!
November 16, 2022
CHoR nurse practitioner Amanda Gideon with her family

From heart care to hematology and oncology, and nephrology to the NICU, nearly 40 nurse practitioners care for patients and families at CHoR. NPs are licensed advanced practice providers and an essential part of the team, making diagnoses and treatment plans for patients with a variety of injuries and illnesses.

Meet Amanda Gideon, one of our outstanding CHoR nurse practitioners

In recognition of National Nurse Practitioner Week, we’d like to introduce you to one of our NPs who makes a valuable difference for kids and their loved ones every day.

    Name and credentials:

    Amanda Gideon, MSN, RN, CPNP

    Area of specialty:

Pediatric palliative care and pain management

Why did you decide to become a nurse practitioner?

After 10 years as a bedside nurse at CHoR, I was looking for new ways to care for my patients with the ability to focus on and elevate the areas of pediatric nursing care I was most drawn to.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I love that being a palliative care provider affords me the time and space to build very strong relationships with patients, families and teammates. I also am always excited to think "outside the box" and make care plans for my kids that treat not only their bodies, but also minds and souls.

What do you want patients and families to know about you?

I am loud and goofy! Don't let that detract from the fact that I am very passionate about my work though. Between years of pediatric nursing and some personal family journeys through difficult medical situations, I am always ready to be a voice for those who need and want it.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I have always been a runner and try to keep it going whenever I'm not chasing my kids. My license plate is a variation of 'carpe diem' and I love to travel with my family, preferably to a beach.

Thank you to Amanda and all our nurse practitioners – this week and all throughout the year!

Meet all the CHoR providers who specialize in caring for kids.
