When 13-year-old Isaac was struggling in school, his parents turned to Virginia Treatment Center for Children.
A note from Isaac’s mom: Thankful for the right care and a healthier, happier child
My husband and I are educators at public schools so we figured Isaac most likely had ADHD but we had hoped diet, schedules and sports would be enough to manage the inattention and hyperactivity. We eventually changed schools after his behavior began to affect his academics and relationships with his friends. Public school was not meeting his needs. He became depressed and anxious.
We reached out to VTCC when it was clear that our efforts weren't enough. Our son had become depressed and all we wanted to do was help him. Dr. Shah made all of us feel at ease and listened to our concerns about medication. We were amazed how quickly treatment made a difference and kicked ourselves for not getting outside help sooner. His teachers remarked at the positive change. Isaac shared with us that he could think more clearly and that his thoughts were no longer like popcorn flying around his mind. He shares in class and is able to complete his work. His impulsivity drastically improved. He is able to play an entire hockey game without landing in the penalty box. And most importantly he feels more confident and happier.
I recommend VTCC to parents that have reached out to providers who don’t return their calls or offer solutions that are individualized for their child. I have heard from many parents who have lost hope. Everyone has been helpful and kind. We are able to schedule appointments around my son's school schedule, which other providers were unwilling to do. And most importantly to us, he was not overly medicated and a holistic treatment plan was offered.
