Where to stay

Special lodging

For families who need assistance with lodging costs, our partners at The Doorways and the Ronald McDonald House offer free lodging with suggested contributions. These partners offer not only a home base, but support to families whose children are receiving medical care at CHoR.

Room at RMHC

On-campus RMHC family rooms - opening in Children's Tower, July 2023

All families of pediatric patients are also welcome to lunches provided five days a week by RMHC and to take activities and comforts from RMHC’s Happy Wheels carts as they travel through pediatric and neonatal units.

Off-campus RMHC house

RMHC offers housing to families just 1.5 miles from the hospital. The home-like environment offers private rooms for families, hot meals, laundry facilities, entertainment spaces and transportation to and from the hospital. Guests must be referred by a CHoR employee. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis with a suggested daily donation of $15, but no one is turned away because of an inability to pay.

With 115 guest rooms, common spaces, a caring staff, and an active group of volunteers providing meals and services to residents, The Doorways is an essential resource for those who are in medical crisis far from home, and for Richmond’s health care community.

Guests are encouraged to make a donation of $15 per guest per night, along with a refundable $30 security deposit. However, no one is turned away because of inability to donate. While walkable to the hospital (5-6 blocks), shuttle service is available.
