Our goal: Teach and engage pediatric physicians and nurses
Pediatric Grand Rounds started in 1964 with the goal of enhancing diagnostic, clinical and treatment skills, to include best-practice and evidence-based medical information and education. The goal of the series is not only to teach, but to actively engage participants.
The online archive was started in 2016 to address the needs of those unable to attend live sessions. Each archived session includes a listing of additional reading materials for further study and a post-quiz assessment. There is no cost to access these videos and claim credit.
Our presentations are targeted toward pediatric physicians, nurses and other health care providers and community members who care for children.
Sample topics include:
- Current nationwide health concerns – Coronavirus, sports concussions, and obesity
- Multidisciplinary conditions - autism, craniofacial malformations, and pain management
- Pediatric mental health topics – suicide risk screening, human trafficking and neuropsychology
- Clinicopathologic Cases – hypercalcemia, neutropenia, hypoglycemia and failure to thrive
Series learning objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:
- Effectively apply current diagnostic, therapeutic, clinical and pharmaceutical techniques
- Discuss and consider the incorporation of newer research and case evidence into best practice medicine
- Describe new procedures and enhance current skills through case discussion
Individual learning objectives are provided at each event.
This enduring material requires the participant to watch a recorded lecture online, score 75% or better on the post quiz, and complete an online activity evaluation. The participant will then be directed to a website to download their CME certificate. Google Chrome is the preferred browser to use while accessing this system.
Grand Rounds are given by Virginia Commonwealth University faculty members, and both local and regional guest speakers.
In support of improving patient care, VCU Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
VCU Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
