Dr. Tegwyn Brickhouse is Director of VCU’s iCubed transdisciplinary Oral Health Core and the School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Services Research Core. In addition, she is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dental Public Health and Policy at the VCU School of Dentistry. She has served VCU as a faculty member since 2003. In 2017, she had the opportunity to transition from her duties as the chair of Pediatric Dentistry to be the Director of the Oral Health Services Research Core in the Philips Institute for Oral Health Research in the School of Dentistry. The opportunity was combined with building group of investigators in oral health services research, epidemiology, and policy and community engaged research within the Department of Dental Public Health and Policy.

The establishment of Beverage intake patterns, dental public health and policy<br> Dr. Brickhouse has a solid history of NIH, HRSA, Virginia Department of Health (VDH), industry and internal funding such as her current VCU Presidential Research Quest Fund Research award for a CEnR project. Her NIH research funding has consisted of an R03 and K-award, in addition to multiple internal funding programs and VDH contracts. This provided the foundation of her work in children’s oral health disparities and successful achievement of promotion and tenure in 2008. In 2009, she became the Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry here at VCU and spent the next 9 years leading that department while obtaining sentinel funding (3.2M) for the institution in the form of HRSA training grants. These grants focus on expanding curriculum in Pediatric Dentistry related to health equity, interprofessional education, social behavioral determinants of health, and dental public health into both the graduate educational program in Pediatric Dentistry (residency program) and the dental school and dental hygiene programs.
