Bio

Nassim Zecavati, MD, MPH, FAAN is the Director of Epilepsy at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is board certified in Epilepsy and Neurology with a special qualification in child neurology. She treats pediatric patients for all types of neurological conditions, with a special interest in epilepsy, telehealth and global neurology. 

In addition to her medical education, residency and fellowship, Dr. Zecavati completed a fellowship in public policy working for a year in the U.S. Senate on Capitol Hill crafting provisions of the Affordable Care Act. She advocates nationally and internationally for issues that affect children with neurological conditions, having served on advocacy committees for both the Child Neurology Society and the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Zecavati is active in research and has published a number of articles on studies regarding pediatric concussion, epilepsy and childhood stroke. She has a special interest in the neurological manifestations of infectious diseases such as the Zika virus and Coronavirus and their cognitive effects on children and neonates.

Beyond her roles as a physician, researcher and public policy advocate, Dr. Zecavati is the mother of three young children. Being a mom has given her a new level of investment and understanding of her patients’ needs and the importance of a family-centered approach to care.
