Dr. Shearer grew up in Virginia and attended James Madison University for undergraduate and graduate school. His career started at the A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE before he moved back to Virginia to run an outreach clinic at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. He worked in private practice after moving to the Richmond area before joining the VCU Health/CHoR team in 2025.
Dr. Shearer and his wife have two young kids and a dog, who he spends most of his time with when he's not cooking/baking or working in the garden.
