Bio

Dr. Kogon is a congenital heart surgeon with more than 20 years of experience in all areas of congenital heart disease across the age spectrum. He's performed countless heart surgeries, including rare and complex operations for neonates, Noorwood procedure, heart transplants, double switch operation, unifocalization for MAPCAs, Ross/Konno, AVR/Konno operations and chest wall reconstruction.

Dr. Kogon's favorite part of his job is walking into the waiting room to tell a family that their baby did great during surgery. He finds it fulfilling to watch these children thrive into adulthood and lead normal, active lives. His care philosophy focuses on a team approach. Dr. Kogon partners with an incredible group of pediatric cardiologists, anesthesiologists, critical care providers, nurses and many others – all working hard to provide the best care every step of the way.

Dr. Kogon began practicing in Virginia in 2023 as a congenital heart surgeon at UVA Health Children's and chief of congenital heart surgery at CHoR. He spent most of his career operating at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University and served as their chief for four of those years. During that time, he built the adult congenital program into one of the largest in the country and led a team that was consistently ranked among the nation's top 10 congenital heart surgery programs by U.S. News & World Report. He has also served as the chief of congenital heart surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and at Advent Health Orlando.

In his life outside of the hospital, Dr. Kogon is happily married to a physician/equestrian and has three children. He enjoys staying active playing tennis, swimming and cycling.
