Dr. McLaughlin served as chief resident and chief fellow and received several awards throughout his training, including:
- Teaching Fellow of the Year in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine (2017)
- Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2015)
- Teaching Resident of the Year in Pediatrics, Uniformed Services University School of the Health Sciences (2011)
- Intern of the Year, Pediatrics, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (2009)
Dr. McLaughlin is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is chair of the EMSC Committee for the state of Virginia - Appointed to the State of Virginia EMS Advisory Board, serving the Governor of Virginia (3-year term.)
