Dr. Couser has earned several awards, including the National Institutes of Health Pediatric LRP Award, Emory University's Research to Prevent Blindness Departmental Award and Howard University College of Medicine's Excellence in Research Award. He is on the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Genetic Eye Disease Task Force and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and International Society for Genetic Eye Disease and Retinoblastoma.

Dr. Couser is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
