Shape the future
Why stop with Richmond?
As an academic medical center, a key component of CHoR’s mission is advancing pediatric health care through conducting innovative research and training the next generation of caregivers. Our teams directly impact the lives of the 80,000 children we serve each year, but through our research and academic missions we are improving the lives of children across the country and around the world.
Community support since 2020 has accelerated the pace of discovery through our Child Health Research Institute, and our vision for the future includes continued investment in research to maintain momentum and build on our past successes. Our neuromuscular team, for example, is conducting groundbreaking clinical trials that will dramatically improve outcomes for children with muscular dystrophy. Those trials attract patients from all over the United States and internationally as well.

There is a shortage of pediatric specialists across the country. To ensure we continue to meet the needs of children and families, we must expand and improve the training programs we offer to our medical students, residents and fellows. Pediatric fellowships offer advanced training in specialty areas of pediatric research and practice, and CHoR intends to establish new fellowships in the areas of pediatric urology, cardiology, mental and behavioral health, pediatric intensive care, surgery, neonatal intensive care and more.
