Senior Philanthropy Writer
Children’s Hospital Foundation is seeking a communications professional to research, plan and execute written materials in support of a wide variety of efforts, including public relations, general marketing, donor solicitation, impact reporting and more. As part of the Communications and Donor Relations team, you will work closely with clinical and administrative team members at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, patient families, donors and volunteers to develop content that showcases CHF’s mission and impact. You will maintain an annual editorial calendar designed to highlight patients, donors, clinical teams and programs, fundraising events and other newsworthy items online and in print.
A crucial part of this role is providing strategic support to the frontline fundraising teams through the development of tailored proposals, case statements, presentations and stewardship reports that align with institutional priorities and effectively present a compelling case for philanthropic investment.
This position reports to the Vice President of Communications and Donor Relations and works alongside other communications, donor engagement and special event team members.
The ideal candidate
- A clear communicator who is comfortable working with physicians, leaders, donors and community partners to develop messaging focused on the impact of philanthropy across research, education and clinical care at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU
- Strong ability to translate the hospital and foundation mission, complex medical research and scientific concepts into compelling narratives to multiple audiences
- A strong strategic communicator with a talent for crafting persuasive verbal and written cases and stewardship reports that connect donor interests to institutional priorities, align philanthropic opportunities with prospect motivations, and reinforce donor engagement
- Interest in working in a collaborative team environment to identify priorities, collect information and execute deliverables in a timely manner
- Passionate about children’s health care and excited to be part of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s vision to become a top children’s hospital
- Strong time management skills to maintain pace with predetermined editorial calendar, gift officer proposals as well as unforeseen needs
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of professional writing and editing experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Microsoft Office
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on communications/marketing
- 10+ years of professional writing and editing experience, including experience leading an editorial process
- Experience within a health care and/or children’s hospital fundraising environment

Schedule
Position is approximately 80% remote and 20% in person with fluctuations week to week. Must be able to attend meetings, interviews and other activities in the Richmond area as needed.

Salary range
From $75,000; competitive and commensurate with experience
