COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Updates and impact on foundation activities

Children's Hospital Foundation has been working with our partners to evaluate next steps for each of our events on an ongoing basis. The safety of our patients, families, supporters, volunteers and team members is our top priority as we make these decisions.

All of our in-person activities and events for the remainder of 2020 have been cancelled in their current form. When possible, we are moving events online, while others are postponed to 2021. We are grateful for your support during these challenging times and hope you will stay connected with us in new and different ways.

Key provisions of the CARES Act and charitable giving in 2020

In response to the health crisis facing our nation, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act became law in March of 2020. Most of the reporting surrounding the Act has focused on the economic relief that will be coming to individuals and businesses, but there are provisions contained in the Act that impact charitable giving options for individuals who are interested in supporting Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU during these unprecedented times. Read more here.

WAYS TO HELP

Our focus continues to be on providing the best care for all kids and families.

If you would like to support our efforts specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic, please consider getting involved in one of the following ways.

Donate personal protective equipment

Hospitals across the country are looking ahead at how they can care for many more patients to come during COVID-19. We currently have sufficient supplies of personal protective equipment to keep our doctors and nurses safe on the frontlines, but we cannot predict the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To prevent future shortages of PPE and protect our clinicians until transmission of the virus is over, we are reaching out to the community for support.

For more information on donations, please call (804) 628-0400.

If you are an organization or business (labs, construction, machinery, salons and other personal services) with supplies of PPE, please consider a donation of your supplies to help us protect the physicians, nurses and other team members working for the safety and wellbeing of our community.

We welcome donations of the following items:

  • Surgical masks
  • N95 masks
  • Face shields
  • Disposable gowns
  • Latex-free gloves
  • Goggles
  • Shoe covers
  • Head covers
  • Germicide wipes

Please bring your donations in a bag or box, if possible.

Bring donations to:
VCU Medical Center Gateway Building
Valet entrance
1200 E. Marshall St.
Richmond, VA

Hours:
Monday-Friday, 5 a.m.-11 p.m.

Valet personnel will assist you with your donation. You can download this form, complete it and mail it to Children's Hospital Foundation to receive a receipt for your donation.

Donate blood

VCU Health and the American Red Cross are hosting local blood drives to prevent blood supply shortages for hospital patients. We encourage healthy, eligible individuals to donate blood or platelets during this time.

Words of encouragement

We greatly appreciate and happily accept messages of thanks and encouragement for our team members. Share your message on our Facebook page so all our team members can see your words of encouragement.

Financial contributions

When you can, please consider making a financial contribution to support our patients’ and care providers’ most pressing needs. Please visit this page to make your gift.

Out of concern for the health and safety of our patients and team members, our child life department has temporarily suspended in-kind donations. Child life depends on community to help make the hospital a little more fun. If you'd like to support our patients during this time, Walmart gift cards are a helpful substitute!

We cannot accept individual food donations

Should an organization or restaurant wish to partner with VCU Health to donate food for employees, please contact Nathan Cunningham at (804) 628-1795. At this time, we accept only take-out donations.
