Foundation Events Officer

Position Purpose:

As part of the Foundation Events team, the Foundation Events Officer strategically plans and implements Children’s Hospital Foundation’s signature fundraising events to drive philanthropic support for Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. The Events Officer will be responsible for all logistics associated with a designated portfolio of special events and for establishing relationships with event participants, volunteers, sponsors, fundraisers and donors. The Events Officer is directly responsible for maximizing revenue, expanding community partnerships and designing year-round peer-to-peer and donor stewardship pipelines.

Strategic Key Responsibilities:

Event Portfolio Management & Execution

The Events Officer will work to advance the organization’s overall events program, under direction of the Director of Foundation Events and in collaboration with the Community Relations and Programs Officer.

  • Fundraising Event Leadership: Strategically direct and execute the end-to-end logistics and project lifecycles for a portfolio of signature annual events, including Radiothon, LemonAid, Extra Life and third-party events.
  • Fundraising Event Stewardship: Build and monitor year-round stewardship track and utilize event participant data to increase retention, upgrade historic giving levels, and deepen donor and peer-to-peer fundraising engagement. Conduct targeted visits and meetings with corporate sponsors, volunteer committees, and event fundraisers to build long-term donor pipelines and increase year-over-year event revenue.
  • Donor Engagement Event Support: Collaboratively provide strategic planning and logistical support in advance and onsite at donor engagement events throughout the year, including stewardship and cultivation events of all sizes.
  • Fiscal Oversight & Analysis: Manage and regularly update comprehensive event budgets. Perform post-event financial reviews and cost-benefit analyses to optimize fundraising and identify budget improvements.
  • Messaging & Advocacy: May serve as a spokesperson for Children’s Hospital Foundation when promoting events and associated activities.

Integrated Team Support

The Events Officer will work collaboratively with other members of the Children’s Hospital Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU teams to ensure our event program continues to support and advance organizational goals.

  • Frontline Collaboration: Coordinates closely with the philanthropy team and corporate and community partnerships team to identify high-potential event sponsors and supporters. Supports the stewardship of these event sponsors and participants into multi-year Foundation partners.
  • Children’s Miracle Network Collaboration: Works directly with the Director of Children’s Miracle Network Programs to identify growth opportunities for CMN’s portfolio of events (Radiothon, Extra Life, Dance Marathon) and local partners.
  • Marketing and Communications Collaboration: Partners with the marketing and communications team to ensure all event promotional materials are updated, relevant and represent the mission of CHoR and Children’s Hospital Foundation, helps identify and cultivate impactful mission stories and assists in identifying content and delivery through various channels to maximize audience reach and participant acquisition.

Qualifications: 

  • Education: College degree in a related field (Nonprofit Management, Hospitality Management, Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, or similar) preferred, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Experience: 2–4 years of professional experience in fundraising, event coordination or community relations. A foundational understanding of nonprofit event and peer-to-peer fundraising models is highly desirable. 
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard project management utilities. Direct hands-on experience or familiarity with specialized fundraising and event software (e.g., Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM, OneCause, Wrike) is highly beneficial. 
  • Licensure & Requirements: Valid driver’s license and reliable transport for local travel. Flexibility to support events on select evenings and weekends. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate standard business equipment and computers for extended periods. 
  • Sufficient mobility to manage active, fast-paced event environments, including setup and teardown at special events often after-hours. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication capacity to navigate communications over the phone, digitally, and in person. 

Schedule:  

Children's Hospital Foundation offers a hybrid work environment. Due to the highly collaborative and donor-facing nature of this role, regular onsite presence is required to support donor visits, hospital tours, meetings, and team activities. While flexibility is available, the successful candidate should expect to work onsite approximately three to four days per week, depending on fundraising activities, team priorities, and organizational needs. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support fundraising events, donor meetings, and other special activities.

Salary range:

$50,000-$65,000; competitive and commensurate with experience.
