Whether it’s a tummy bug, sprain or something in between, odds are the timing isn’t convenient. Thankfully, our virtual urgent care clinic is!
Skip the drive and see a CHoR doctor from the comfort of your home, available daily from 4 p.m. – midnight. Wondering how it works? We have answers to some of the most common questions about this new service.
How much will it cost?
Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the regular copay amount required at the time of your virtual visit will be $0, however, you may receive a follow-up bill from your insurance company or VCU Health for your copay or additional amounts. It’s a good idea to call your health insurance company to confirm your specific coverage. These visits are billed as urgent care, not emergency care!
How is this different from other urgent care options in the area?
You and your child will see a pediatric emergency medicine doctor, every time. We’re experts in caring for kids and can make diagnoses and treatment recommendations thoroughly and efficiently.
What conditions can be addressed via urgent care?
Virtual urgent care is intended for illnesses and injuries that are not life threatening. These may include:
- Asthma attacks (minor)
- Burns (minor)
- Cuts (small/minor)
- Rashes or minor skin infections
- Sore throats
- Sprains and strains
If your child is experiencing severe symptoms or a life-threatening situation, seek emergency medical care – NOT urgent care – or call 9-1-1.

Can they fill prescriptions?
Yes! Your doctor can make a diagnosis and prescribe appropriate medications during your virtual urgent care visit. They’ll send prescriptions to your pharmacy of choice so you can pick them up and help your child start feeling better quickly.
Are virtual urgent visits private?
We take your child’s privacy seriously. Through the VCU Health Anywhere app, you’ll create an account with your own password to ensure that only you and your child can log in. The app is private and secure, so all your information and communication is safe. We also encourage you to make sure that you and your child are in a private space during the virtual visit.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment is required for a virtual urgent care visit! We’re here when you need us, from 4 p.m. – midnight, seven days a week. You simply need a smartphone, tablet or computer with reliable internet access.
How do I get started?
If you don’t already have it, download the VCU Health Anywhere app on your computer or smartphone and create an account or log in. Fill out your child’s information, including reason for the visit, any existing conditions or allergies and any additional information that might be relevant. Your doctor will review this information and then begin the virtual appointment.
