Laying the foundation

Laying the foundation

This month marks the start of the New Year and an important construction milestone in the development of your new children's hospital. After months of excavating, our crew is laying the foundation for the new hospital! We know a new building is just walls and paint if passion, purpose and change don't come together. So, as the concrete is poured, we'll continue to build on the people and programs that will help children thrive within these new walls. We'll address access concerns and work with our community and families to discover new ways to enhance the patient experience. And, in 2022, we'll open the doors to a new children's hospital where every child in our growing community has a chance to heal, recover and celebrate their super powers.

We look forward to 2022 when we'll have an entire city block dedicated to caring for kids - under one roof. See what a few friends had to say about their passion for the new children's hospital:

    Javier Guzman
    4-year-old CHoR kid

"The doctors and nurses will take care of the little kids all together at the same place!"

    Marisa Cherry
    Mom to CHoR kid, Lauren

"Let's never stop working together to build a place that provides children and families with the best care and the best memories even on their worst days."
    Walter Chun, MD
    Pediatrician, Richmond Pediatric Center

"I am thrilled that our region will have access to a world class center dedicated specifically to the health care needs of children and their families, finally all under one roof! As a pediatric provider in Richmond for over 20 years, I have long recognized the high quality of pediatric care that exists here. The new children's hospital will not only serve as a state-of-the art tertiary referral center, but also exponentially enhance care by becoming an epicenter for pediatric health care delivery, research and education. Vastly improved accessibility will yield higher utilization by patients and foster a renewed collegiality among community providers with CHoR specialists."
    Coleman Wortham III
    Chairman, Children's Hospital Foundation

"After nearly 40 years of involvement with the Children's Hospital, I am continually blown away by the dedication of the teams and their care for the children in our community. This is certainly one of the driving reasons why my family and I support the Children's Hospital and specifically this new hospital. I can't wait for the CHoR team to work in a space that is built for them and for the people they serve. We've all waited a long time for it!  I always say I am the luckiest guy in the world and I am so proud and excited to be able to support CHoR and all the people who make it so impressive."

    Jeniece Roane, MS, RN, NE-BC
    Associate Vice President of Operations
    Associate Chief Nursing Officer
Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU

"As I reflect on my career as a children's health nurse and administrator, for me, the new hospital represents our promise to the community. The promise of a new day when our facilities match the compassion and expertise that spans across every aspect of our hospital. The promise that we will provide the very best care to our patients in an environment that is specially designed just for children and their families. The promise that children of all backgrounds have access to the very best care - right here at home."
