MyChart replaces the My VCU Health Patient Portal, provides fast, easy access to your child’s health information
Have you been using My VCU Health Patient Portal to access your child’s health information? We’re moving to a bigger and better platform – MyChart – and it’s now available to you!
The free app allows you to:
- View and request appointments
- View lab and test results
- View vaccinations and other health records
- Request refills
- Access telehealth visits
- Message with your provider
- Pay bills
As a parent/guardian, you can gain “proxy” access to your child’s health information through MyChart. Proxy access allows you to view and manage certain medical information on behalf of your child. Your level of access to the portal depends on your child’s age.
MyChart access for children ages 0-12
Parents/guardians can request full proxy access for children ages 0-12. This level of access allows you to view all bulleted information above.
MyChart access for teens ages 13-17
Adolescence is a time of physical change, growing responsibility and increased independence. Teaching adolescents how to advocate for themselves and ask the right questions is an important milestone. MyChart can play an important role by helping teens manage their health information.
- Teens ages 13-17 can view all the bulleted information above.
- Parents/guardians of teens ages 13-17 cannot view their teen’s health information in the portal but can request partial proxy access for secure messaging to communicate with health care providers. Due to privacy regulations* and respect for the teen, providers do not message with proxies about sensitive health information including reproductive health care, outpatient substance abuse treatment and outpatient mental health care.

MyChart access for patients ages 0-17 who are unable to consent
Parents/guardians can request full proxy access for children ages 0-17 whose health care needs prevent them from making medical decisions on their own. This request can be made during your visit to our hospitals or clinics. All requests are reviewed by a medical team. You will need to re-request proxy access once your child turns 18.
MyChart access for patients ages 18+
Patients who are 18 or older can have full access with the ability to view all bulleted information above. You can also grant proxy access to other adults if you wish.
