Among the best in the country when it comes to cardiology and cardiac surgery for kids

Newsweek’s 2025 rankings of American’s Best Children’s Hospitals are in and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU has ranked among the top 50 children’s hospitals for cardiology and cardiac surgery. The rankings are intended to help families identify the institutions that are best equipped to meet their children’s specialized health care needs.

“Our full-service heart center brings skill and compassion to every encounter. On a given day, they may be diagnosing a baby’s congenital heart defect before birth, mending a child’s heart through a minimally-invasive procedure in our dedicated pediatric cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology lab, or educating school personnel so they’re prepared to address sudden cardiac arrest on school grounds,” said Dr. Karen Hendricks-Muñoz, interim physician-in-chief of CHoR. “Their impact on the health of our children and communities is wide reaching and has earned them the deserved recognition as being among the best in the nation.”

How Newsweek names America’s Best Children’s Hospitals

Newsweek partnered with market research firm Statista to gather data through a nationwide survey of more than 10,000 medical professionals and hospital managers, analysis of publicly available hospital quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores and patient-reported outcome measures implementation scores.

The Newsweek website noted, “For families who want the best medical attention for their children, we hope this ranking helps shed light on which children’s hospitals go the extra mile when it comes to pediatric care.”
