First responders from throughout the region will shine lights, wave to patients from streets
Being in the hospital can be tough for kids, but the region’s first responders are working to make the experience a bit brighter for patients at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. In honor of the Children’s Tower’s second birthday April 30, police cruisers and firetrucks will circle the block with vehicle lights flashing and occupants waving to young patients in their hospital rooms.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 30 | 8:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
WHERE: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU – Children’s Tower
1001 E. Marshall Street, Richmond, VA 23219
Emergency vehicles will line up on Marshall, Clay, Leigh, 10th and 11th streets.
Media parking will be available along 10th Street between Marshall and Leigh streets.

Goodnight lights fast facts
- If you notice a lot of lights and sirens downtown, you should know it’s cause for celebration, not concern.
- During the annual goodnight lights at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, emergency vehicles circle the Children’s Tower with their lights and sirens on.
- It’s all in an effort to brighten the stay for patients as the Children’s Tower celebrates its second birthday.
- Patients and their families will get their own flashlights and glowsticks to wave back at the first responders below.
- Community members’ smiles and waves are welcome too. Pedestrians will gather at the corner of 10th and Marshall streets.
