Dr. Jeff Mapp named medical director of Virginia Children's Care Network

New leader, same vision for improving the health of Virginia's children

Jeff Mapp, MD, MBA, a general pediatrician at CHoR, has been selected as the next medical director of Virginia Children's Care Network effective October 1, 2026. VCCN is a clinically integrated network supported by CHoR in collaboration with community pediatricians across the region.

As medical director, Dr. Mapp will lead VCCN’s efforts to align participating providers around quality, value-based care, population health and clinical outcomes. He will collaborate with operations leadership at CHoR, community providers and external partners to integrate value-based principles into everyday operations through evidence-based practices and data-driven decision making.

Dr. Mapp will also represent VCCN at the state and national levels, working alongside peer medical directors, Children’s Hospital Association’s Accountable Healthcare Learning Collaborative, DMAS and other pediatric value-based care groups. His clinical expertise and business background will be key as he works alongside VCU Health’s managed care team regarding payer relations and value-based contract negotiations.

In addition to this new leadership role, Dr. Mapp will continue caring for patients at CHoR, where he has made a lasting impact through his leadership of our resident clinic.

Dr. Mapp has served children and families in the Richmond region since 2008. Before joining CHoR, he practiced at Pediatric Associates of Richmond for 14 years. He also holds an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill and has extensive experience in practice operations, financial management and systems improvement. He’s passionate about applying these experiences to improve care for children across Central Virginia through VCCN.

Thank you to Dr. Keith Derco for serving as VCCN’s medical director for the past eight years. He was integral in guiding the formation, success and longevity of VCCN. Dr. Derco ensured continued focuse on the Institute for Health Improvement’s quadruple aim: improving the patient’s experience, improving population health, enhancing provider wellbeing and reducing healthcare costs. Dr. Derco will work with Dr. Mapp to ensure a smooth transition and will remain with VCCN in an advisory capacity to the Board of Managers.
