The Children's Tower opens Sunday! CHoR and VCU Police have organized a special celebration – goodnight lights – to help patients settle in for their first night in their new hospital rooms.
“This is a monumental moment for our city and for children and families at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU,” VCU Police Chief John Venuti said. “Families will receive different colored flashlights with instructions to shine them out their hospital room windows for first responders to see. We’ll be outside with our vehicle lights on for them as well. It’s a way to say, ‘we’re cheering you on, and have a great first night in the new hospital.’”
Patients in the pediatric acute and intensive care units will move from the pediatric floor in VCU Medical Center Main Hospital to their new rooms in the Children’s Tower throughout the day on April 30.
“The Children’s Tower is truly a dream come true for our community, our families and our team members,” Jeniece Roane, vice president of operations for CHoR said. “The goodnight lights celebration is an opportunity to show our children that there’s a larger community rallying around them on opening night – and every night.”

8:45-8:55 p.m. – Vehicles turn on their lights; patients shine flashlights out windows
8:55-9 p.m. – Vehicles depart, and patients go to bed

Vehicles will line up along King Street Bridge and on Marshall, Clay, Leigh, 10th and 11th streets.
