COVID cases spiking just in time for the holidays: Please celebrate safely

COVID cases spiking just in time for the holidays

COVID cases are continuing to climb throughout the country – and right here in Central Virginia is no exception. We’re prepared for a surge, but we need your help to keep our community healthy.

Though we all want to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones and meaningful traditions – especially after a long and challenging year – it’s as important as ever to take precautions.

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus this holiday season, we’re asking our community to:

    • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in public
    • Keep a distance of six feet or more from those who do not live in your home
    • Wash your hands often
    • Postpone in-person holiday gatherings – connect with friends and extended family virtually instead

Do your part for a healthy start to 2021

Without everyone making these efforts, numbers will continue to rise in the New Year. Hope is here in the form of COVID-19 vaccines, but until we can achieve herd immunity Dr. Kimbrough and her son have some reminders:

Remember, people can have COVID-19 without showing symptoms and unknowingly share the virus with others, some of whom may become quite ill. Take heart though – the pandemic will end eventually and the precautions we take today will help ensure that we can have joyous celebrations when that time comes.

We’re here when you need us!

Although we recommend staying home as much as possible, don’t delay care if your family needs it. Our hospitals and clinics are safe and open, and we’re increasing telehealth options when appropriate.

We also offer virtual urgent care with our emergency medicine doctors from 4 p.m. - midnight for those illnesses and injuries that pop up when you least expect them.

Happy holidays to you and yours from CHoR!
