Celebrating Black History Month: CHoR team members share what it means to them

CHoR team members share what Black History Month means to them

This month – and all year long – we honor the pivotal contributions and sacrifices of the many African Americans who have helped shape our country.

In celebration of Black History Month, we sat down with six of our CHoR team members who share a passion not only for caring for kids today but continuing to pave the way so their future can be anything they want it to be.

Black History Month in their own words

“Celebrating Black History Month is important to me because it helps me reflect on the past and the struggles that Black people have been through, particularly in this country, and it helps me look forward to the future – a brighter future for me, for my daughter, for my family and for other children and people in the Black community,” Dr. Althea Bickley, pediatric resident.

“I think it’s important to acknowledge and recognize those who have sacrificed so much to allow people of color to obtain some of our wildest dreams. Their sacrifice has afforded us opportunities and rights that were previously unachievable. It’s because of them that I sit here as an orthopaedic surgeon and I honor them by celebrating Black History Month,” Dr. Shaunette Davey, orthopaedic surgeon.
