Anthem LemonAid stand registration now open

The days are getting longer and the sun is shining brighter, which means Anthem LemonAid presented by Richmond Ford is just around the corner. The annual event, now in its 22nd year, will return in traditional, in-person form the weekend of July 22-24, 2022. Countless stands will be scattered throughout Richmond, selling lemonade to raise money for hematology and oncology services at CHoR.

    How Anthem LemonAid works

Registration for Anthem LemonAid is open and participation is FREE. Once registered, you’ll receive lemonade mix, a pitcher, cups and other materials to help run your stand. Registration will remain open through July 19. LemonAid stand kit pickup will be held on Wednesday, July 20 and Thursday, July 21 on the front lawn of our Brook Road Campus.

“We look forward to this beloved Richmond event every year and this year is especially exciting as we’re able to return to a format where over the course of one weekend thousands of Richmonders are showing their support for CHoR by either hosting a stand or buying some lemonade,” said Lauren Moore, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We’re eager to see the registrations start coming in and watch the momentum build for another great Anthem LemonAid season.”

Part of the fun of the event is that you can choose to place your stand wherever you please – your backyard, a public park, local pool, etc. No spot is a bad spot. Once set up, the concept is simple – each stand will sell cups of lemonade to passersby with the profits going directly to support local kids with cancer. It’s an old-fashioned idea with a philanthropic twist.

“Investing in our community is something that is extremely important to me and our associates, and this is one of my favorite events,” said Jeff Ricketts, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia. “We are excited to continue our long-time support of this summertime tradition, which makes a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of so many children in Virginia.”

Introducing the 2022 Anthem LemonAid ambassador

CHoR patient Thomas the 2022 Anthem LemonAid ambassadorEvery year, an Anthem LemonAid ambassador is selected to help raise awareness and promote the event. This year that person is 11-year-old Thomas Carley. Thomas was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2020. As ambassador he will travel around to lemonade stands and encourage the public to support the hospital.

“I told my mom that I wanted to participate because I know what it’s like to have cancer and go through all of the treatments,” said Carley, who is a fifth grader at Collegiate School in Richmond. “It’s really tough. Anything I can do to help is a good thing.”

Richmond Ford, the event’s presenting sponsor, also partnered with Anthem last year for LemonAid. The dealership ran lemon-themed games and other activities to raise money.

“Jeanine and I, and the entire Richmond Ford Family, are so excited to be sponsors of the Anthem LemonAid event,” said Ron Kody, president of Richmond Ford. “We are proud to support the children and families in our community as they fight cancer. Our dream is to one day eliminate childhood cancer, but for now, we will do all we can to make a difference for those fighting this disease.”

Since the event’s debut in 2000, Anthem LemonAid has raised $1,113,186 for CHoR.
