Andrew Hanna, MD
Virginia Tech Carilion SOM
Howdy there! I'm Andrew Hanna. I'm a PGY-2 Med-Peds resident, and I love this program! I'm originally from Maryland, and I went to school at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. I knew that I wanted to come to Richmond not only because of the beautiful city in all the things to do here but because of the culture that I saw in the Med-Peds and categorical programs.
I really appreciate the academic culture, while being relaxed enough so that I always feel comfortable asking questions and getting help from my teammates. I really enjoy hanging out with my co-residents out in Richmond and even the times we can spend together in the hospital, as well as all of the interactions we have in the team rooms. If you're going to spend all week with a group of people, it helps a lot if you're looking forward to work every day! When I'm not at work, I love to explore outdoor Richmond on my bike (there are still new places I haven't been!), swimming at the VCU gyms or in the James River, or just visiting any of the 200 Richmond restaurants on my Yelp list. I'm making good progress in chipping through that list! I won't advertise my favorite spot so it doesn't get crowded, so you'll have to ask me in person for the most hipster recommendations!
