Hey everyone! I'm excited that you are considering CHoR for your residency next year! Here's a little bit about me and why I love Richmond. I grew up in Charleston, SC and left to become a Tar Heel at UNC-Chapel Hill for four years before returning to Charleston for medical school at MUSC. I am planning to apply for a cardiology fellowship with plans to focus on preventative health. There is nothing I love more than being outside, particularly near the mountains. I love hiking, biking, running, camping, kayaking, and I can do all of this in Richmond! The city is very bike-friendly, and I, along with many other co-residents, enjoy commuting to the hospital on two wheels. I've also picked up mountain biking since moving here and convinced several co-residents to invest in mountain bikes as well, and we have formed quite the biker crew. I love escaping to the nearby mountains in western Virginia during my free time to hike and camp, and I have seen a few too many black bears in the last year. I have also just started training for the Richmond half marathon with a co-resident. If the abundance of outdoor activities here aren't enough to convince you, the food and brewery scene here is excellent! I have really enjoyed my time at CHoR thus far, and the people here become your family. I enjoy hanging out with my co-residents inside and outside of the hospital, and the faculty are very supportive and excellent teachers. We see a wide variety of pathologies here, and the tandem work schedule helps maintain work/life balance. I really like that we are so close to the capital and have many opportunities to get involved with advocacy work. I am currently on a project to educate residents about gun safety, and we have gun locks in clinics that we can give to families in need. Despite the challenges that this interview cycle brings, I hope that you consider CHoR and we look forward to meeting you!
