Emory University SOM

Hello and welcome to VCU! My name is Nate, I'm from Atlanta originally but took a circuitous path to Medicine (through New York, Colorado, California, and back to Atlanta for medical school at Emory). I try to balance my love of being outdoors with my fondness for cultural centers, and Richmond is the perfect city for me. We've got unparalleled access to whitewater (class IV rapids in town?!), mountain biking (miles of single track within fifteen minutes of the hospital), and rock climbing (a short walk across the river), not to mention the mountains and the sea, both of which are a short drive away. As for cultural/historical significance, Richmond offers plenty of opportunities in the way of museums (VMFA, Chimborazo Hospital), restaurants (I'm really not a foodie...), and public parks (Maymont, Bryan Park). When I'm not in the hospital, I'm probably working on a project in my new (old) house, or out playing disc golf at one of the several courses nearby. Of course, I love my work too. VCU manages to create a stimulating, growth-oriented, challenging work environment, while also maintaining an open, supportive, and safe space for us to learn and grow. I'm looking forward to sharing more about why VCU and RVA make such a great pair for residency!
