West Virginia University SOM

My name is Kemper Steffe and I am third-year resident. I was born and raised in Roanoke, VA then went to the University of Virginia (wahoowa) for undergrad. I finally ventured out of Virginia to attend medical school in far-away wild and wonderful West Virginia. During medical school, I saw the impact that high-quality primary care can play in a child’s life and became interested in primary care pediatrics, specifically in a traditionally underserved area.

I was drawn back to Virginia for residency at VCU for many reasons but mostly because it felt like home. Richmond is a city that is big enough to offer an incredible diversity of both population and experiences while also providing the coziness of a small town. The program reflects the city in many ways with a diverse group of residents and faculty who have all come to feel like family. The program is structured to provide ample opportunities to learn and grow as a physician while still maintaining resident well-being as a high priority. Because of this, I have time to enjoy bike rides on the Capital Trail, jogs by the James River and nights watching the Flying Squirrels (Richmond’s minor league baseball team). I hope you will consider VCU for residency and further strengthen this amazing community.
