About CHRI

Research to improve health and achieve a better future for our children

Mission

The mission of the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI) at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is to ask and answer critical research questions that will lead to improved health and a better future for our children.

Vision

By focusing the attention of researchers, families, funders and clinicians from across Virginia Commonwealth University campus and beyond, the CHRI will catalyze the development of critical investigations designed to enhance the health and development of children from our community and around the world. These will enhance our visibility, attract outstanding new faculty and trainees, raise external funding and philanthropy investments and improve education efforts.

Focus areas

Based on strengths, opportunities and the needs of our communities, four inaugural research focus areas have been selected to enhance cross-disciplinary collaborations and foster innovative research.

  • Emergency care/intensive care/cardiac/pulmonary
  • Health equity
  • Neurosciences
  • Translational and personalized medicine (TPM)
