School fundraising

You can make a difference for kids in our community by organizing a fundraiser in your school community. Kids can help other kids and learn valuable lessons while creating a sense of community in your school. To make it even easier, we have suggested programs we can help you plan and implement quickly and easily.

Dance marathon

Have fun and do some good! Dance marathons are a great way to raise funds and awareness for CHoR while students learn lessons about leadership, planning and teamwork. The event culminates with an 8-40 hour event where students can celebrate patients in the local community, participate in games and dancing, enjoy entertainment and reveal their annual fundraising total.

To learn more or plan a dance marathon at your school, contact Vaughan Clark at vclark@chfrichmond.org.

Change for Children

Each year our children make us proud of their involvement in the community. Many schools have incorporated outreach and community service into their curriculum to provide a well-rounded education. Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Change for Children Campaign is a community service project for students of all ages that allows students and teachers an opportunity to support classmates and other children who are patients at CHoR. With more than 60,000 patients treated each year at the hospital, children from every school in the area are receiving care.

The support that hospital patients and families receive from schools, individual students, teachers, Parent Teacher Associations, and student groups in Central Virginia is vital. Over the years, Change for Children has supported a variety of programs at CHoR, including the Assistive Technology Smart Suite, Feeding Program, Recreation Therapy Playroom and uncompensated care.

There are nearly endless possibilities for involvement, and our staff is here to support your efforts every step of the way. Program history

In 1999, the Senior Board of Children’s Hospital Foundation began a school fundraising campaign called Wishing Well, which was primarily a penny fundraiser. Since the program began, the program has raised over $300,000 to support children at CHoR. The Wishing Well pennies program was renamed the Change for Children Campaign to better describe the annual campaign and the many different ways local schools are helping our children and families.
