Care across the globe

Caring for children around the globe

Many of our physicians, surgeons, nurses, dentists and other health professionals volunteer with different organizations to make a difference in the lives of children who do not have ample access to pediatric medical care. From programs to eliminate rheumatic fever to delivering vaccinations and primary care, our caring staff members are devoted to making a difference for children and families in the Central Virginia community – and around the globe.

CHoR care accross the globeWorld Pediatric Project

World Pediatric Project, founded and headquartered in Richmond, is a non-profit organization providing tertiary diagnostic and surgical care to children in Central America and the Caribbean. Since 2001, WPP and CHoR have partnered to provide surgical and diagnostic care to Central American and Caribbean children. Our nurses, physicians, surgeons and other health care professionals volunteer their time and travel abroad with WPP.

We also provide life-changing care on campus in Richmond to children whose conditions require that they be brought to our country for advanced care. This partnership has changed the lives of children suffering from congenital heart conditions, craniofacial and orthopaedic conditions, as well as advanced surgical needs and even the separation of conjoined twins.

In 2013, Sir Frederick Ballantyne, governor general of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and an official representative of Queen Elizabeth II, presented CHoR with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in honor of the care provided to children of St. Vincent.
