Promoting children’s health beyond our hospital walls

The health of all children is our number priority at CHoR. We were founded more than 100 years ago to help our community face the polio epidemic, and we have evolved over the years to provide care for every pediatric need under the sun. From community partnerships and public health initiatives – to advocating for children's health at our nation’s capital – we reach outside the walls of our hospitals and clinics to improve the health of all children across the Commonwealth.

Public health: Building healthy kids, families and communities

We believe that every child has the right to a healthy childhood – and future. We offer special programs to help address public health issues that impact our community, including COVID-19, asthma, obesity, mental health and safety:

Advocating for all children

In close collaboration with VCU Government Relations, we advocate for the health of all kids – from our region and across Virginia. This includes visits with elected officials, participating in Children’s Hospital Association’s Family Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill and many other activities that impact the clinical programs, public health initiatives, innovative research and educational programs that contribute to healthy futures for our community.

Supporting community partners who impact the lives of our kids

We are not currently accepting sponsorship applications. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted hospital budgets, staffing and resources, and our health system is no exception. We have paused our sponsorship program through our fiscal year 2024 and will re-evaluate in July of 2024. Please reach out to Caroline.Hutchinson@vcuhealth.org with any questions.

We are proud to have sponsored and partnered with dozens of organizations and foundations that support the needs of children and families in our community, including ASK Childhood Cancer FoundationCameron K. Gallagher FoundationConnor’s HeroesCystic Fibrosis FoundationHeart Heroes IncJDRFRonald McDonald House CharitiesStop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) Greater RichmondWorld Pediatric Project and others.

We support community organizations and partners that can help us extend health care services and education to those outside our walls. To make the best use of our resources, we focus our support on organizations that can make the largest impact on our community’s health.
