Research Interests

Dr. Wickham is the Director of Research for the Healthy Lifestyles Center and principal investigator for the family-based, multidisciplinary TEENS (Teaching, Encouragement, Exercise, Nutrition, and Support) Healthy Weight Management Research Program at Children's Hospital of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also the recipient and principal investigator for a Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health titled "Adiponectin and Endothelial Dysfunction in Adolescents" (K23HD053742) that investigates the role of alterations in the fat-derived hormone, adiponectin, in the development of insulin resistance and early vascular dysfunction in adolescents.

Additional, clinical and research interests include the treatment of severe obesity in children and adolescence, Type 2 diabetes in children, cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and transition of care from pediatric to adult specialty care.

Bio

Dr. Wickham is a member of American Academy of Pediatrics, The Endocrine Society, The Obesity Society, and American Diabetes Association as well as the Pediatric Obesity Task Force of the Virginia Chapter of the American Association of Pediatrics.
