Bio

Dr. Ryan was recruited to start the pediatric hospital medicine program at CHoR in 2009. His clinical time is spent caring for hospitalized children on the pediatric hospitalist service and providing consultation to other medical and surgical services. He has been recognized as a "Top Doc" in Richmond Magazine for pediatric hospital medicine since 2013. Dr. Ryan directed the Pediatrics Clerkship at VCU from 2010-2013 and became the Assistant Dean of Clinical Medical Education at the VCU School of Medicine in 2013. He has received several awards for educational excellence including the "faculty teaching award? for both the VCU Pediatrics residency and the VCU Pediatrics clerkship. He received the Academic Pediatric Association?s junior faculty teaching award in 2016 which is given to one faculty member nationally. He also received the VCU School of Medicine award for Educational Innovation and Educational Research in 2016. His primary research interests are in undergraduate medical education, EPAs, assessment and curriculum development. He currently serves as adjunct faculty for the John Hopkins MEHP program and is an active member of the AAMC, COMSEP and the Academic Pediatric Association.
