Meet the Leadership at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR)

Our leadership team is dedicated to advancing children's health in our community and are driven by a passion to put children first.


Elias Neujahr, MHA, MBA

CEO, Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU
Neujahr joins CHoR from CHRISTUS Health System where he served as president of The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Affiliated with the Baylor College of Medicine, The Children's Hospital of San Antonio employs more than 170 pediatric health care providers. As president, Neujahr led successful efforts to significantly improve quality outcomes while supporting operational efficiencies. He was also active in leading the growth of signature programs, including a congenital heart center, maternal/fetal health and expansions in neurosciences, oncology and orthopedics. Neujahr was also responsible for construction projects that transformed the hospital's main campus and brought outpatient facilities to the surrounding community.
Prior to joining The Children's Hospital of San Antonio in 2014, Neujahr served three years as vice president of operations at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Physicians, part of Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During his tenure, the hospital achieved multiple U.S. News and World Report best children's hospitals rankings.
Neujahr previously excelled in several roles at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, serving as director of ambulatory and physician services and associate vice president of clinical resources before being promoted to vice president of clinical resources.
Neujahr holds master's degrees in both health care and business administration from the University of Colorado. He completed his undergraduate education at Colorado State University where he received a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science.

Jeniece S. Roane, MS, RN, NE-BC

Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU
Mrs. Roane provides leadership for children's services primarily on the downtown campus. She focuses on inpatient and outpatient services, building upon the tremendous momentum in children's health and preparing the way for a new CEO to lead CHoR at VCU into the future. In addition, Mrs. Roane provides leadership for inpatient women's and children's health services. Prior to her current roles, Roane served as nurse manager for the pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric progressive care unit and child life. Roane has 24 years of nursing leadership experience.

Email: Mrs. Darby oversees inpatient and outpatient nursing as well as several other clinical departments on the Brook Road Campus. Prior to becoming Vice President, Darby served as Children's Hospital's Director of Clinical Services from August 2001-July 2003. Darby's experience includes more than 20 years in Nursing at VCU Medical Center, with 10 years serving in nursing administration where her managerial duties included newborn and pediatric intensive, intermediate and general care units.
