Dr. McKenna maintains a primary focus on clinical care of patients but is also involved in several other projects. He is working with the Office of Clinical Transformation as an M.D. informaticist, helping to implement electronic medical records hospitalwide and working toward national goals of personal health records and increased access to information. In addition, he is part of a hospital-wide project to develop and implement a patient Web portal to allow ease of communication, scheduling and sharing of clinical information and education. He is the MD champion of the Medical-Legal Partnership Richmond — a project designed to link families with unmet legal needs with free legal advice and representation. He is also interested in family-centered care and is working with the Department of Pediatrics to implement family-centered practices.
